Make Use Of RTI Law In Your Cause Of Duty- MCE For Wassa Amenfi Municipal Cautioned Journalists
Municipal Chief Executive for Wasa Amenfi East, Hon Frederick Korankye yesterday encouraged Wasa Amenfi journalists to test the system and use the RTI law to demand information from the various institutions.
Hon.Frederick Korankye made this statement during the launch of Wasa Amenfi Journalists Association at Wasa Akropong in the Wasa Amenfi East Municipal of the Western Region.
The 1992 Constitution, Article 21 (f) grants every Ghanaian the right to information regarding public sector affairs and governance in general. It is against this backdrop that Parliament passed the Right to Information ACT, 2019 (Act 989) which His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo assented to on 21st May, 2019.
The RTI ACT 989 promotes transparency and accountability by empowering people to access information on central and local governments as well as non-governmental organizations, which are publicly funded.
Hon Korankye added that, Journalists should be as transparent as possible about sources and methods so audiences can make their own assessment of the information. Even in a world of expanding voices, “getting it right” is the foundation upon which everything else is built – context, interpretation, comment, criticism, analysis and debate. The larger truth, over time, emerges from this forum.
