Chartered Institute Of Bankers, Ghana Marks Financial Literacy Day.
Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana (CIB Ghana) has marked the 2023 Financial Literacy Day at some selected senior high schools in Ashanti Region as part of its 60th Anniversary Celebration. The event which was held on Friday, 20th October 2023, was themed: “Redefining Professionalism in Banking through Ethics.”
Making a presentation to the beneficiary schools on a myriad of topics including: The Importance of Financial Literacy, Savings and Investment Skills, The Essence of Personal Budgeting, amongst others, the President of CIB Ghana, Mr. Benjamin Amenumey, emphasised the importance of Financial Literacy for young people. He stated that Financial literacy is essential for young people to make sound financial decisions and achieve their financial goals.
“It can help them avoid debt traps and build a secure financial future.”
On his part, the CEO of the institute, Mr Robert Dzato, commended chartered bankers and financial institutions that volunteered their time and knowledge to teach our younger brothers and sisters. He noted that: “Financial Literacy Skills is a sustainable development issue.
The Institute will work with partners and the Ministry of Education to embed financial literacy skills in curriculums. If there is one lesson from the recent Domestic Debt Exchange Programme, it is that we all need more financial literacy skills.”
Expressing their profound appreciation after the event, the students – some of whom were representatives from Prempeh College, Opoku Ware Senior High, Yaa Asantewaa Girls, Kumasi Anglican Senior High and Adventist Senior High – commended CIB for the education. They therefore called for more this workshop in the future.
CIB Ghana is committed to promoting financial literacy in Ghana. The Institute believes that financial literacy is essential for everyone to achieve their financial goals and live a prosperous life.
The Institute is carrying out the same initiatives to some Senior High Schools in Greater Accra, Ahafo, Bono, Western, Savannah region and more. Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana (CIB Ghana) is mandated by an Act of Parliament, the Chartered Institute of Bankers Ghana Act, 2019 (Act 991), to promote the study of banking and regulate the practice of the banking profession in Ghana. The Institute’s strategic mandate is to develop trusted financial services professionals.
As part of its mandate, CIB Ghana is contributing to realising the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals 1, 4, 8, and 10. These are attaining zero-poverty status, the provision of quality education, citizens having decent work and economic growth, and the reduction of inequality.
