Sefwi Akontobra: Youth Clahes With Chinese Over Illegal Mining Activities
The youth of Sefwi Akontombra in the Western North Region protested against illegal mining activities led by Chinese operators in their community.
They set fire to the equipment and structures used for mining on-site. The youth expressed frustration with the extensive land degradation and pollution of water bodies, which they believe endangers the community and its future.
Speaking of Harry Addo one of the youth, he blamed the security and the authorities in the area for turning a blind eye to the illegal mining activities in the area.
In his assertions, the galamsey activities are destroying water bodies and farmlands in the area but authorities have failed the community hence, the youth have to fight for the interest of the community.
However, 6 gunshots were fired and 3 people were injured during the process.
