NDC Led By John Dramani Mahama Cannot Be An Alternative Choice For Ghanaians-NPP Activist
A key member of the ruling party, NPP, Mr. KWADWO Nyamekye Bigbrain has hinted that, the NDC led by John Dramani Mahama is never, and cannot be an alternative hoice for Ghanaians.
Citing key reasons in his write-up, stressing that, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) being a major stakeholder in our democratic political history, are not oblivious to the fact that a higher voter apathy ostensibly disadvantages the incumbent political party than the opposition; and this is something basic for every student of Ghana’s electoral history to be acquainted with. So they have nothing to lose if floating voters decide not to vote at all; with the belief that this government has disappointed them.
New Patriotic Party as an incumbent party then, suffered same fate in 2008 general elections. And when those aggrieved electorates “came back to their senses” in the run-off, the harm had already been caused. Kind courtesy Kwadwo Afari Gyan, the NDC had already initiated their rigging expertise to win the second round.
They have began this old strategy again, knowing very well that no matter how disappointed any objective Ghanaian is in this current administration; the NDC, most importantly being led by John Dramani Mahama is not, and can never be an alternative. It is for this reason that their communicators mostly try to play on the emotions of Ghanaians, so that even if these people decide not to vote for their Mahama; NPP wouldn’t get those votes either. It would be comical and buffoonery on the part of anyone who thinks this renewed agitations about developmental projects in Ashanti region is for nothing. They do this to emotionally blackmail Ashanti voters, which is NPP’s stronghold. Any voter turnout in Ashanti region this year; which is lesser than the national average, could be so discomforting to NPP.
Mahama’s incompetent handwriting is always visible on the walls, and perceptible to our minds. This simply means that those floating voters who rejected NDC, and voted for Akufo Addo in the last two elections, after “being disappointed” by this government (as they argue), might opt for not voting at all. After all, “all politicians are the same” ( the buzzword for most citizens). And if NPP leaders complacently sit aloof for this to putrefy, then NDC might have a walkover in election 2024; which to me, should not be possible.
It seems most people in the middle class are confronted with this dilemma of having to choose among these perceived two “political devils”. So the best option would be: not voting at all (apathy); or rather vote for one of the minority parties. Mind you, these people were part of NPP votes for the last two elections. So this would be a bad omen for the party, and shrink its chances thereof.
NPP leadership would have to soberly convince these citizens that, the worst form of an NPP government is uncontestably better than NDC’s best, and boycotting an election is never the best option; hence the need for all of us to cast our ballots as enshrined in the 1992 constitution.
You can pretend not to be aware of this but most of our youth, especially graduates, are increasingly being surfeited with politicians, and are therefore not motivated by anything positive to vote for, since nothing seems to change even if government changes; it’s just a cycle. It would be politically suicidal for NPP, going into election 2024 with such mindsets of our youth. NPP owes Ghanaians are properly marketing of their successes thus far.
In curbing these upheavals; posturing, utterances and lifestyle of government/party officials must not make blood boil for grassroots/ordinary Ghanaians. Individual contributions by some of us from the village should be noticed and appreciated accordingly even if for nothing at all . This is an opportunity for the party to be made attractive, appetizing and easily accessible to its grassroots; and inspire political activism.
One thing that NPP should be mindful of, is not to have much confidence in votes from the youth. NPP should rather concentrate more on the hinterlands and old people in our villages. There’s no ambiguity to the fact that political loyalty is assured among the aged and maybe the illiterates, so the party should build a big bond with these voters.
With this, #BreakingThe8 could become a reality, and shock to those who think they through the media, this election is over for the incumbent party”.
We live to learn, my thoughts though.
