2024 Elections: Sefwi Boinzanhene Calls For Truce
The Chief of Sefwi Boinzan and Kontihene of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, Nana Ofori Ahenkan II, has issued a strong call for peaceful elections in 2024 during the celebration of the Elluo Festival at Sehwi Boinzan.
The Elluo Festival, which celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Sefwi Boinzan, provided a fitting platform for this message of peace. The event drew a diverse audience, including dignitaries, local leaders, and members of the community, all of whom echoed the chief’s call for a peaceful electoral process.
Speaking under the theme “Creating a Peaceful Atmosphere for the 2024 Election: The Role of Traditional Leaders,” Nana Ofori Ahenkan II underscored the pivotal role that traditional authorities play in maintaining national peace and unity.
He emphasized that the responsibility of safeguarding the nation’s stability lies not only with political leaders but also with traditional leaders, who have a profound influence on their communities.
In his address to the media, Nana Ofori Ahenkan II urged political leaders, party supporters, and the general public to prioritize the nation’s stability over partisan interests.
He highlighted the importance of tolerance, mutual respect, and constructive dialogue in preventing electoral violence.
“Peace is the bedrock of our development, as traditional leaders, we must lead by example and ensure that our communities remain peaceful before, during, and after the elections.”
Nana Ofori Ahenkan II also called for enhanced collaboration between traditional leaders, the government, and security agencies to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections.
He stressed the need for all stakeholders to engage in dialogue and utilize conflict resolution mechanisms to address any tensions that may arise
In a show of unity, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman, the National Democratic Congress Running Mate, also addressed the gathering as a guest speaker on behalf of former President John Dramani Mahama.
She echoed the chief’s sentiments, urging Ghanaians to uphold the country’s tradition of peaceful and successful elections.
“The peace and stability of Ghana are paramount. Every Ghanaian has a role to play in ensuring that our nation remains a beacon of democracy in Africa,” Professor Opoku Agyemang remarked.
