Mahama Promises To Provide 10,000 Mini Business Opportunities For The Youth
The former president and flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama promised to provide 10,000 mini-business opportunities for the teeming youth especially women when he was elected president.
Mr Mahama was speaking during the launch of the Women Manifesto at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology( KNUST) in the Ashanti Region.
Addressing traders, market queens and various women groups, the former president hinted that, the NDC is much concerned about women which is why the party’s running mate is a woman.
Thus, it is captured in the manifesto. Women in recent times are breadwinners in our homes and to ensure they become more versatile, the NDC government will ensure women who want to engage in mini businesses like bakeries, and food selling of all kinds are given financial push as start-up capital.
Mahama also hinted that when given the financial push, a monitoring team will be monitoring benefits every 6 months to guide them until their businesses are well sustained.
The former president reminded them that, the Women’s Bank policy would also enhance the challenges of scurring loans from Banks since the Women’s Bank would come with collateral-free and less interest rate.
According to him, in his 120 days in government, the process to acquire licensing for the women’s bank will kick start and an amount of Ghs20 million seed money would be secured for the commencement of the Bank.
Mr. Mahama noted that women play a crucial role in nation-building and the next NDC government will ensure women’s participation in public institutions, the private sector, the police and other key institutions are given the needed attention.
He outlined bills that are supposed to be sent to parliament for approval, including the affirmative action bill, property rights of spouse bill, domestic workers bill, and inter-state success amendment bill. All these bills, Mr. Mahama promised to ensure they are sent to parliament and passed in the next NDC government.
