Galamsey Is Happening Behind A Police Station At Anyinam -Minerals Commission’s CEO Hinted
The Chief Executive Officer of the Mineral Commission, Mr. Martin Kwaku Ayisi has made unwavering assertions that the calls for the government to ban legal mining is a misplace of demand.
Speaking during the Assurance Committee Sitting, Mr Martin Kwaku Ayisi revealed that the fight against illegal mining should be a concern for every Ghanaian, and the mineral commission is burnt on fighting illegal mining activities.
Mr Ayisi told the committee that he informed the police in Anyinam that Galamsey activities were taking place behind the police and yet the police failed to act on the information.
According to the Chief Executive Officer, the problem confronting the fight against Galamsey is as a result of unavailability of mining sites to mine but was quick to state that, the government has resourced to prospect for mining concessions to mine responsibly.
Mr. Martin Ayisi stressed that it will be very difficult to ban legal mining because, how can someone who rightfully acquired a license to mine and you ask thatvperson to stop. How will that person feels. He asked.
“In our quest to fight illegal mining, our focus should be directed to those mining in the river bodies.” Not those legally acquired licenses and they are mining responsibly.
The Mineral Commission doesn’t give licensing to people to mine in water bodies…and if one is found mining there, it means the person is doing it illegally and the outfit has reported cases of galamsey activities to the police for further actions to be taken.
