Debunking The Myth: Organized Labour’s Strike Is Political Motivated -Lawyer William Kusi
In recent times, the issue of illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey in some regions, has posed significant environmental and social challenges in several regions in the country.
In response to the detrimental effects of these activities, organized labour unions and advocacy groups have been at the forefront, demanding governmental intervention to ban such practices.
However, organized Labour and other institutions scheduled 10th October 2024 to embark on site down strike to prompt the government to place a ban on all mining activities.
Since the announcement of Organized Labour’s intentions to embark on the strike, a controversial debate has arisen about the underlying motivations behind organized labour’s demands whether it is purely politically motivated or stem on genuine concerns for the broader welfare of society.
However, Lawyer William Kusi of Dominion Chambers raises eyebrows suggesting that organized labour strike is not driven by genuine concerns for the environment or worker welfare but rather political machinations aimed at achieving their parochial interest.
Lawyer William Kusi questioned Organized Labour of where were they when galamsey activities were at it peak in 2014 and 2015. Two months before the elections, the labour unions are now leveraging the sensitive issue of illegal mining to garner support and influence voters to vote against the ruling party.
Using the banning of illegal mining as a means to exert pressure on the government to influence their bargaining power to potentially gain an advantage in favour of the opposition party NDC is out misplaced…and urged government to withhold their salaries when they embark on the strike.
