Operation Hallt Armed Military Task Force Team To Fight Galamsey Won’t Yield Results ….Small Scale Miners Tells Govt.
Small scale miners across the Ashanti, western, eastern , central and western north regions have expressed concern about the deployment of armed military personnel Code Named ‘OPERATION HALT 2 in combating illegal mining ( Galamsey) activities on the country’s rivers and water bodies as well as in the forest reserves.
According to the miners who are into Responsible scale mining activities, military intervention into the Galamsey fight since the year 2018 when Operation Vanguard, Galamstop task force teams inaugurated to fight the Galamsey menace they could not chalk successes but only ‘ A waste of the Ghanaian tax payers money ‘.
The small scale miners further revealed that the various military task force deployment were only interested in setting fire into excavator machines and other mining equipment they see in the small scale mining sites which were operating responsible small scale mining activities.
This development according to the small scale miners brought a lot of anger in many innocent small scale miners who are operating without water pollution and in the forest reserves.
Over the period the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners ( GNASSM) has had its Task force team which was aimed at combating illegal mining ( Galamsey) activities on the rivers , water bodies and was inaugurated by the Hon George Mireku Duker, deputy Lands and Natural Resources minister in charge of Mining and was officially inaugurated in the Ashanti regional capital in Kumasi.
The GNASSM task force team since its inception and inauguration with its head of task force team, Commander Andoh Bresi who later handed over to Commander Patrick Don Chebe worked so assiduously with its task force team members which they succeeded in destroying chanfan machines being used on the rivers Ankobra, Offin , Birim , Pra and others which they also made several arrest of illegal miners ( Galamseyers) and handed them over to the police for prosecution .
The small scale miners who are into Responsible Small Scale Mining activities claim the GNASSM task force team are the best to fight against the Galamseyers because they can identity those illegal miners and knows the corners and locations at which they operate because they have reliable informants who update the task force team to take action.
With barely few days to the general elections, and the government deployed armed military task force team many of the responsible small scale miners who with no fault of theirs could be victims of this military task force intervention because we see this development as no ‘ Mercy for the Cripple ” because majority of those engaging into Responsible small scale mining have packed all their excavator machines and other mining equipment for fear of being destroyed even though they are not operating illegally.
We are by this urging and appealing to the President , Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo who is also the Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces to recall back the Operation Halt 2 military task force team to the barracks to pave way for the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners task force team to solely take over to combat the illegal mining menace for a very successful end.
Signed .
