We Cannot Afford To Sacrifice Ghana For Political Interest- NMC Chair Tells Journalists
The Chairman of the National Media Commission ( NMC), Mr. Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh has called on the rank file of the media fraternity in the Ashanti Region to as a matter of national interest, rise above their professional work and conduct themselves in a manner that may not impugn the peace of the country as the nation goes into the December 7 general election.
Addressing Journalists at a Media Forum for the election 2024 in the Ashanti region, Mr Ayeboafoh charged the media not to lose guard of their core duties so as not to put the nation in chaos through false reporting and irresponsible comments before, during and after the election.
” We can’t afford to sacrifice the nation through inaccuracy reporting and political interest “.
Mr. Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh reiterated further that, Journalists must stay objective and commit to diligent and accurate reportage to help cool down the hearted political atmosphere.
On his party, the Ashanti Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) chairman, Mr Kingsley Hope, also used the occasion to caution college Journalists to let accuracy be their hallmark in order not to confront the integrity of the elections.
Fake news, he noted, is a concern that bothers the credibility of journalists. However, he urged all and sundry to act, and report responsibly to protect and preserve the peaceful atmosphere the country is enjoying.
The Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Mr. Osei Nsiah briefed Journalists about the preparedness of the outfit, assured them that, they are committed to delivering transparent, free and fair elections in the coming December 7 polls and went further to demand fair reporting from Journalists.
Mr Nsiah made it clear to Journalists that, on the 5th of December, nobody including the EC’s Commissioner will have access to key office where election materials are kept. “The only person, according to him, is the Inspector General of Police (IGP) until December 7”. Thus, urging the general public to remain calm and resolute for peaceful polls.
