Partisan Students Of Politics Across The Globe To Learn From Ghana’s 2024 Election- Kwadwo Nyamekye Bigbrain
The uniqueness of every election is, it’s ability to provide genuinely intriguing phenomena for lovers of elections. By this, students of partisan politics in Ghana and across the globe will have a lot to learn from Ghana’s election 2024; from the choice of NPP Flagbearer (first time non-Akan and a Muslim), selection of both NPP and NDC Running Mates, campaign models for the two leading political parties, possible shift in conventional election dynamics, etc.
Personally what I have learnt from this election and my realization thus far, is for every politician to have a “Samira-like” wife on his side. Politics as usually said, is a game of numbers, be it good or bad, so far as the person votes for you. But when it comes to those in the helm of affairs, there are inarguably good or bad numbers in the game of politics. Due to the fact that some action and/or inactions of such individuals (at the top) could unconsciously rescue or drown their own candidates. One of such people could be no other than spouses of leading politicians; in this case, Presidential Candidates.
Hajia Samira Bawumia has been so instrumental in NPP’s campaign even back from opposition days. For those of us who were too young to witness Konadu Agyemang Rawlings in her hay days, I think Samira Bawumia gives us an abridged version of Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.
During NPP’s final national rally into election 2020, Samira’s speech at that rally practically received a standing ovation from almost everyone present, including president Nana Addo himself. In fact, her speech was for me, the best at the rally.
It seems Samira Bawumia has a positive inherent sense of competition subconsciously to march her husband, when it comes to election campaigns and political communications. I say so because, ever since DMB was politically baptized ( post election 2012 supreme court petition), Samira has been almost at same pal as her husband. I dare say she has been NPP’s best campaigner for this election, second only to her husband; the Flagbearer. She has suffered a lot of verbal abuses from her political opponents, some of which are bizarrely unimaginable, but that has never suppressed her at all.
She’s brilliant, respectful, philanthropic, hardworking, intelligent, has clarity of thought and above all, an excellent political communicator, even more than John Mahama, who considers himself as a communication Expert. And as stated earlier, Hajia Samira Bawumia is more than a good number in this game of politics, to her husband.
She has well positioned herself, knowingly or otherwise, an undisputable roll model for female zango/Fulani youth from poor backgrounds. Many lives have been impacted by her, through her foundation; Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Projects (SEHP). The success of her northern region campaign tour forced the NDC Flagbearer to resume his tour in the north, and explicitly so, Mahama left Northern region when Samira completed her tours over there; an unquenchable political nemesis she is to the NDC.
I will say this a million times if the Bawumias win this election, they won it because they worked so hard for it, they won it because they naturally deserved it, they won it because they were “unreasonably” committed to it. They won it because they evidently convinced voters on the superiority of their policy ideas, and dedication to lead Ghana with integrity, also because they have virtually sacrificed their all. In all these, one can not necessarily discount the obviously immeasurable efforts by Samira. I could hyperbolically argue that Samira Bawumia’s campaign has been comparatively better than that of NDC’s general campaigning.
It is a pleasure listening to Samira on campaign platforms, she’s a fully packaged politician. She has an inestimable love, trust and faith in her husband’s quest to leading Ghana, understands DMB’s political ideologies and campaign policies, updated on most political issues. Samira knows when to brilliantly attract NDC’s venomous attentions to herself, to ease the pressure on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia .
Samira’s fluency in about seven (7) languages (Hausa, Ga, Twi, Fante, French, English, fulbe) makes her feel belonged and accepted in wherever she finds herself, which also makes it so easier for her listeners to clearly comprehend what she puts across; she’s always proud to associate herself with her tribe; a trait I so envy.
She fits so well into Proverbs 31:10 and Q’uran 4:34.
May the Almighty God grant us long life to experience the fullest political potentials of Hajia Samira Bawumia.
Assalamualaikum!
We live to learn, my thoughts though.
