One remarkable example of this can be seen in the efforts led by the Queen Mother of Mpasatia in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, Nana Afia Badu Abrafi who has taken the initiative to provide free medical health screening to her community. Through the supportive involvement of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), His Royal Highness Otumfou Osei Tutu II, Mpasatiahene, Nana Okyere Karikari Apau, and supported by Otumfou Dental Clinic, her foreign partners, Image, a nonprofit making organisation, a group of master degree Nurses and doctorial degree medical professionals called Agapener ensuring the success of the programme.
This free medical health screening is not only to address pressing health needs but also empowers citizens to take charge of their health, promoting a culture of wellness and active participation.
Nana Afia Badu Abrafi, a Psychiatric Nurse, underscores that, the over 100 people participated in the medical screening, 70 percent of them have been identified with high level cases demands periodic screening programs.
Nanahemaa noted that the medical health screening has also revealed that, many individuals face barriers to accessing healthcare, including financial constraints and the free screening exercise will help eliminate these barriers.
Even though, the free medical health screening was foucs on providing critical services like blood pressure checks, diabetes screenings, cholesterol tests, and many more…where Nanahemaa is helping to ensure that everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status, has the opportunity to monitor and manage their health in her community.
Nana Afia Badu Abrafi told the media during the screening exercise that, health screenings are not just about checking for illnesses; they also offer vital education about health risks and preventive measures of which she went ahed to advise community members who participate in the screening to gain valuable insights into their health and wellbeing and be measured by their eating habits to help improved healthcare outcomes.
